Obtaining a Building Permit BEFORE beginning work helps to ensure that your job will be done correctly and within local and state code.
Building Permits are required for home improvements that affect the structure of a building, including the following: additions; bathroom renovations; electrical work; kitchen renovations; outbuildings; plumbing work; roofs; septic systems; siding; swimming pools; wells and window replacements.
New construction requires a minimum building lot of 3 acres with 300 feet of road frontage.
Building Permits are not required for lawn sheds that do not exceed square footage of 10 feet by 12 feet (under 120 square feet); however, they do need to conform to basic Zoning Laws (must be set back 20 feet from property lines and not placed in a front yard).
Building permit applications may be obtained at the Town Hall lobby bulletin board, from the Town Clerk or by clicking on the link below. Building Permit fees must be paid when submitting the application.
